Reflections - CLassical Creations Composition Task
Term 2
Reflection 1 - Week 9
This week we didn't get much time in class to work on our compositions. We simply chose instruments, and the compositional techniques we were planning on using. I chose a woodwind trio, consisting of a flute, Bb clarinet and a bass clarinet. The compositional techniques I chose to use are inversion, imitation, ornamentation, passing notes, augmentation and diminution.
Reflection 2 - Week 10
This week I started notating on flat and changing the motif. I had to learn how to work it because it was different from noteflight. I needed to change the time signature from 4/4 to 2/4 and the tempo from 80bpm to 60bpm. I started on my graphic notation and have nearly finished notating on flat. My goal for the holidays is to finish notating and graphically planning
Reflection 3 - Holidays
These 2 weeks I have finished notating my score and my graphic plan. I struggled with making it sound complete and making the harmonies work well together. I'm happy with how my harmonies lined up and how the motif is passed around different instruments. I want to change some bits in the score that I feel are somewhat repetitive and add some other compositional techniques to fully reflect my understanding of motivic development.
Term 2
Reflection 4 - Week 1
Tuesday: This week school started and I got feedback on my compositions from my teacher. As I listened to it with her, I realised that some parts were repetitive and needed changing, my teacher also gave feedback that it was repetitive and that with woodwind instruments particularly, articulation is a key factor and would make my composition better. She also commented on my dynamics and recommended that I add dynamics. From this feedback, I added sixteenth notes in my accompaniment section, added a crescendo towards the end and made sure the motif stood out amid the other parts by adding dynamics. I made it so that the accompaniment was passed around during bars to make it more interesting and less boring by changing the tone colour of the motif and accompaniment. At the moment, I am very happy with my progress. However, due to the changes in my composition, I will need to redo my graphic plan. My composition sounds complete and there are almost no clashes in the pitches. I will get a second teacher feedback on Friday.
Friday: The last bit of feedback I got before hand in was that I should add articulation in bass clarinet and that there was one clashing note in on of the bars, where an A clashed with a G. Because I changed so many things in the accompaniment, I had to get a new graphic plan and fill it in at home again. Below is my old graphic plan
